The Power of Football, Community and Belonging
Our Founder, Julia has long believed in the power of sport - not just as a way to stay active, but as a release from everyday pressures and place to find support, confidence and a genuine sense of belonging.
When we started Eleven as One, we spoke to female footballers to better understand why they play. Their answers were incredibly powerful and consistent. Women told us they play football because it makes them feel happy, energised, connected and empowered, giving them a sense of belonging, wellbeing and togetherness alongside the pure joy of the game.
For many, football is far more than just a sport. It's a space to switch off from the stresses of daily life, build friendships, feel part of a community and simply be themselves. It can help with confidence, improve mental wellbeing and provide an outlet that's both freeing and empowering. After years of being pushed to the sidelines, women's football is finally gaining the visibility and momentum it deserves. Across the UK, there are some incredible teams, clubs and organisations dedicated to creating fun, inclusive and inspiring spaces for women to play - whether they're kicking a football for the first time, or have played for years.

A few brilliant organisations doing just this include Team Brave in Bristol, Swans Football in South West London, Gals FC with over 50 locations across England and Beyond the Ball in North London
Another inspiring initiative is the Mental Health World Cup, which for more than 13 years has brought together thousands of footballers across the UK while raising over £900,000 for mental health charities. This year marks an exciting milestone, with the introduction of a dedicated women's tournament taking place on Sunday 24th May.
