The Female Fit: Why Men’s Football Kits don’t work for Women — and what we’re doing about it

The Female Fit: Why Men’s Football Kits don’t work for Women — and what we’re doing about it

When the team behind Eleven as One first went looking for women’s football shorts for training, we assumed it wouldn’t be that difficult. But what we discovered was a serious gap: most major sports brands didn’t offer women’s football kit at all. And the ones that did? They mostly stocked expensive national or club kits — great for fans, but not exactly what you’d wear for a casual kickabout on a week night.

To understand the issue better, we surveyed women’s football players across the UK. Despite over 60% of respondents playing at least twice a week, many of them said they still wore extra-small men’s or oversized boys’ kit.

The feedback was clear — and consistent:

“I can never find proper female football shorts, so I usually end up buying uncomfortable men’s ones.”

“It feels like football kit has just been adapted from men’s designs — but the female body is completely different, so the fit should be too.”

It confirmed what we thought: too many women are playing in kit that wasn’t made for them — in design, fit, or function.

That’s why Eleven as One exists.

The brand may be in its early stages, but its mission is clear: to listen to women playing the game, to test and refine kit alongside them, and to build something better — piece by piece, season by season.
Because comfort, confidence and performance should be part of every woman’s experience of the game – and that starts with kit that fits.
