How we built a Women's Football Kit brand from the ground up

The brilliant thing about starting a women’s football brand? Everyone has an opinion. Whether it’s sizing, fit, fabric, or just the joy of finally having kit that feels made for women — there’s a lot to talk about.

What began as a side hustle — sparked by a frustrating shopping trip to find a decent pair of football shorts — has now become a full-time mission. Along the way, it’s even led our founder, Julia, to lace up her boots and start playing football at the age of 53 (big love to Eamonn and Swans Women’s Football Club for making that happen).

But one thing is certain: it takes a team to get an idea off the ground.

Launching the business wouldn’t have been possible without the encouragement, creativity, and generosity of the incredible people who’ve supported us from day one. Whether it’s offering advice, making introductions, sharing insight, or simply cheering us on — this brand has grown out of collaboration at every step.

We’ve also felt hugely supported by a wider community of women’s sport entrepreneurs, including Laura Youngson at IDA and Leigh at Lacuna, whose generosity and openness truly reflect the spirit of the women’s game. And also everyone on or involved in the Xero / Women in Football Small Business Programme which is a truly brilliant group of people. Building Eleven as One is a team effort — and we’re just getting started.
