Inclusive Sportswear Fix The Kit event

Earlier this week, Julia represented Eleven as One at the Inclusive Sportswear: Fix the Kit event at the House of Lords, hosted by Baroness Tanni Grey-Thomson and Tess Howard.

The numbers speak for themselves: three in four girls feel unconfident in their sports kit, and kit is a major factor in why 64% of girls drop out of sport by the age of 16.

It might seem like a small detail, but as the brilliant panellists highlighted, giving girls and women genuine choice in what they wear to play sport can make a huge difference. Better kit isn’t just about performance — it’s about confidence, comfort, and feeling like you belong. And that can be a powerful way to help more people stay active, involved, and inspired to keep playing.

The event itself was genuinely positive and action-focused. We especially loved the emphasis on driving simple, practical change at every level — from schools and governing bodies to brands, clubs, and teams — through the Inclusive Sportswear Charter.

Julia started Eleven as One after struggling to find football kit designed properly for women. Because when kit is made for you, it can change the way you feel in sport — helping build a sense of belonging in the team, in the game, and out on the pitch.

Julia also recently appeared on The Netball Podcast to discuss inclusive sportswear and why keeping girls active matters so much. In the episode, she shares more about the role kit can play in confidence, comfort, and belonging — and why changing sportswear for the better is such an important part of helping more girls stay in sport for longer.
